Just realised we're in October already and got reminded that Halloween is around the corner. We recently moved to a new neighbourhood. Is there anyway to know if trick-or-treat is a thing here? Should we get prepared for children to come over?

I’d say it’s definitely worth getting something in as you can always eat them yourself. ask your neighbours roughly how many children to expect.
