Looking to arrange a small get together for my friend who is expecting her first baby. Would be a small handful of people, requesting no gifts as I know she wouldn’t want this. My dilemma is I can’t really afford to buy lots of food etc and hire somewhere so was thinking of just arranging a brunch and buying a few decorations.

My question is, is it rude to ask people to pay for their brunch/afternoon tea? I don’t want to upset anyone but think this is the only way. Thank you x

Does she know you're planning one?

I’ve mentioned I might arrange a brunch once but never said anything else.

I'd mention it again to the m2b and see what she thinks. I don't know that I'd be thrilled that guests were expected to pay.

Yeah perhaps that’s a good idea. Just thought as it would be going out for brunch it might be ok but like I say didn’t want to upset anyone!

I’m organising my own friend offered but I don’t want to put her out
20 people doing afternoon tea all paying for their own everyone accepted invite knowing this
my friend had same if people want to and can afford to they’ll come if not they won’t
same as Jen weekends now people are told a cost and can make a choice xx

I have attended one where I’ve paid for myself and that was afternoon tea and I didn’t think anything of it x
