My friends birthday soon, she is sixty something and has everything she would need.

She is going on a coach holiday in a couple of months so thought might get her something for hols.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Where is she going to on the Coach?

SpecialistSubject · 26/03/2023 11:46

I’m sixty something. I’d quite like people who claim to be my friends to continue to describe me as a woman. Why ‘lady’? So alienating and … sexless. Really suggests nicely embroidered handkerchiefs and gentle lavender scent.

As a present - I’m going to a festival this Summer, so I’d like all my friends to club together to give me this dress to wear for it:

Depends on how much you want to spend and what her interests are. Sometimes your time is the most valuable thing you can give.
But what about -
A nice tote bag to carry what she'll want on the coach and on day trips
An illustrated history or guide about one of the places she'll be visiting
Not related to the holiday:
a voucher for a favourite restaurant,
tickets for the two of you to go to an exhibition or something else she'll enjoy,
subscription/membership for something related to an interest of hers.

I’m sixty something, if you want ideas you need to give more info.

What type of holiday, is she active, have hobbies, retired, how does she spend her time?

Good toiletries for this holiday? Smells bring memories for me so when I use them on a holiday it takes me right back to those memories when I smell or use them again. For example, Loccitane Verbena and I’m in lake bled, Rituals Mehr and I’m in Madeira, Liz Earle shampoo and orange and I’m camping in the Lakes. ☺️

That's a great dress @SpecialistSubject 🤩

God this thread is making me feel old ! I'm 60 and if anyone gave me a tote bag to take on a coach trip I would not be impressed. I've seen some really nice phone bags /cross body things that I couldn't justify buying for myself , so would love one of them. Oliver Bonas do lots of nice bags and accessories for gifts.

Ttwinkletoes · 26/03/2023 12:14

I would like a trip to an exhibition or similar and lunch. .. but then I don’t have many friends

StrayGoose · 26/03/2023 12:24

How about a travel pack size of her favourite skin care? Or a really nice high end non-shiny face SPF? Or a personalised trip diary? That's all stuff I would like.

Isn’t it, @PritiPatelsMaker ! 😍 I’m thinking of crowd funding …

(But I honestly would wear it this Summer if some miracle brought it into my possession.)

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 26/03/2023 12:56

Some nice travel toiletries
One of those neck pillows

Wow I hadn't seen the price! I think you should try learning to crochet. Apparently it's quite trendy now and there are loads of videos on YouTube Grin

I am 60 something and would think my friends had lost their mind if they bought me a dress like that! I also would not be going on a coach trip anywhere. I guess what i am saying is that 60 somethings are like anyone else and have many differing likes and dislikes. My friends know that i would want to be on holiday with them and would take me away for a trip and ply me with lovely food and drink!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/03/2023 13:20

She's your friend, surely you know what she might like?

SpecialistSubject · 26/03/2023 13:24

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor - perhaps you haven’t quite grasped the fundamentals of a chat forum? Grin

I'm 60 later this year and want to go indoor sky diving...

It’s a bit of a weird question. I’m 56 and I don’t think my likes and dislikes have changed too much since I was about 20. So it all depends what she likes. Top of my list for this year is a Rab Nexus half zip top in butternut, a wide angle lens for my new camera and a massive quantity of Montezuma 70% chocolate with cherries.

Brightshinylight · 26/03/2023 13:32

Fancy water bottle
nice tea bags/leaves set
if into coffee maybe a travel expression maker (hotel stuff can be dire)
guide book
quick drying towel(s)
small rucksack

Brightshinylight · 26/03/2023 13:38

Forgot - hip flask!!

SpecialistSubject · 26/03/2023 13:40

Tea bags?

Tea bags for your 60th birthday. That’s one way to tell someone you despise them!

Tbh my friends and I don’t tend to exchange actual birthday gifts. Far more likely to go out for the evening - obscure theatre and experimental alcohol …

Keepthetowel · 26/03/2023 13:43

I’m in my 60’s for my recent birthday, I got new running leggings and top, Lego, l’occitane toiletries and a family day out. No chocolate or alcohol as I don’t drink. Everyone is different, we don’t morph in to a homogenous mass once we get towards pension age.
im also thinking of treating my self to some merchandise from feminist women such as Jess de Wahls, wild womyn or Kelly J Keen

Woman is going in a coach trip - OP wants something she can use on a coach trip. So unless OP is also going on coach trip they are unlikely to be able to go out for an evening 🙄ffs

Quick reminder : She is going on a coach holiday in a couple of months so thought might get her something for hols.

HealthyFats · 26/03/2023 14:13

What's your budget, op?

balconylife · 26/03/2023 14:13

I'm 66 and fancy a gift voucher for a go on a climbing wall.

SpecialistSubject · 26/03/2023 14:24

I can read! Grin Just don’t think ‘going on a coach trip’ is a useful basis for a 60th birthday present. Money, clothes, toiletries, luggage - all things you’d surely prefer to choose for yourself for a trip - unless we’re talking luxury luggage.

IMVHO it would be better to plan something for after she’s returned. Like a night out …
