Has anybody else done it?
Any tips or recommendations?

Ideas what to write on the invite?
Where can I find fab pics and backgrounds, dividers and borders for the invitations?

And, which Harry Potter movie is least scary for him to watch prior to the party....

Entertainers? Food?
Tableware?

Partybag? I thought to just let them have a magic wand each on parting, with a ribbon tied to it with a black helium filled ballon, would that be ok?

Magic wand idea sounds great.

We did a HP party years ago and I'm trying to remember what we did.

Could they be given a hat or cloak on arrival and decorate it with lots of stick on stuff? Or choose a feather to stick onto the end of their wands and decorate a wand box from Olivanders?

We did pin the ribbon on Fluffy (I drew a huge 3 headed dog and gave them each a bit of ribbon with their own name on a "dog tag").

Also we played Musical Statues but instead of freezing, I called out various characters and they had to do the right action for the character - eg giant growl for Hagrid, a simper for Petunia etc.

And the first one is the least scary and will also make most sense.

There's a good website for ideas; I'll go and look for it - brb.

Lots of good ideas but you'll have to put up with the bad grammar and lack of paragraphs/punctuation!!!!

Thanks for these suggestions!

Hi,
I just had a Harry Potter Party for my son. I bought invites with matching cups and plates, they had a picture of Harry Potter on them with a blue back ground. I decorated the side garden with scary masks, giant spider webs and drew a picture of a large blue car which I hung on a tree. I put bats across the back and tied up some glow in the dark skeleton balloons in the back corner. The bathroom has a window which over looks the barbque area so I had a ghost in there with creepy music(Moaning Myrtle). I decorated the barbque area with blue and black balloons and streamers.I had witches cauldrons with little candles in them on the tables, and gold star scatters,
I made a sign for the front of the house which was platform 9 3/4, and got paper bags and glued an Ollivants logo on them for treat bags. When the kids all got there I gave them the bag with a wand, glasses, a lightening bolt tattoo, and a character ring. He had a ghost pinata with gross sweets like witches warts, vampire lollypops and ghost drops. I made slime (liquid soap and jelly) and put some little toys in it and the kids had to put there hand in and pull things out. They had sparklers, poppers and glow sticks. All he wanted to eat was sausages on bread and choccy cake( his favorites). So I also had some crisps and jelly beans(bertie bots) on the table, then had jelly and ice-cream. I bought an edible cake topper of Harry Potter that matched the invites for the birthday cake. After that they played hide and seek some tag with their wands. The boys had a great time, and the weather was great so I was able to have it out side.

Just seen that Mrs Weasley has linked to the thread I started where she and others gave me some really great ideas.
May I belatedly say thanks, the party went down really well. I sorted them into Ravenclaw and Gryffindor using the sorting hat game (ended up putting the mobile phone on the table in front of them and it rang when they put the hat on) and we did Mrs W's quiz and the Who's Hedwig game and they got house points. I made them each a wand (cut up dowelling rod and sprayed it gold and silver and rolled them in glitter).
We did two tables at tea, one decorated in red and gold for Gryffindor and one in blue and silver for Ravenclaw.
For the party bags at the end I set up a sweet shop (Mrs Honeyduke's) and a bookshop (Flourish and Blott's and they chose some sweets and a book to take home (books bought cheaply in sets from Book People).
They all had a really good time.
