Hi Folks never posted before so please be kind. My son is turning 7 son and I'm really keen to put on his invitation XXXX would love you to come to his party. Please don't bring a present, just you. Or words to that effect. I've spoken with my son about this and agreed he can get a football strip from us as a family in lieu of presents and he's up for it and I know he'd use that.

If I got an invite like this I'd be DELIGHTED but I'd be interested to know how others would feel. We still have lots of stuff he hasn't used from last year's party. I'd just love to stop the need for presents as I feel like everyone I know hates it but noone does anything to try and stop the flow of plastic!

Like I say please be kind. I've always been rather reticent to post.

Any other wording suggestions gratefully received.

I had been really ill and my dd and her friend had a joint party. Rather than get 40 random presents they decided aged 9 to get donations to the charity rather than presents. Can you do something like that?

Of course you can do whatever you want. My DD would have been fine with this, DS would have been gutted. You know your own DC.

If I got an invite that said "no presents" I'd stick a fiver (or tenner depending on how well we knew them) in the card. I'd have felt I'd met the social convention of giving something and that could go towards the football kit.... Definitely can't just ask for money though.

As they get older you get less plastic tat and more money anyway in my experience.

Seems a bit miserable to turn up without a present. I’d want to give him something, maybe a book token.

If your child is happy with that why not ?
Just say something like ' we would be happy to see you , please don't worry about a present '

If the child is happy ? Also some people might decline because they can't afford a gift.
