Christening, drinks question

hi everyone
it's DS's christening on sunday, people coming to ours afterwards for lunchtime food and drinks.
35 in all, including us. About a third are driving / not really drinking / children, so how much drink do I need.
I thought:
10 red wine
8 white wine
6 sparkling white (we have loads anyway)
2x box lager
12ish beers
~25 non alcoholic lager
4 bottles coke
4 bottles lemonade
4 cartons orange juice
3 pineapple
3 apple
2 bottles sp mineral water
mixers - couple of tonic, ginger ale (we have vodka, gin, whiskey, prob some bacardi)

Does that look about right? Have I missed anything obvious? Which fruit juices are popular, I don't really drink them, and don't want them cluttering up my fridge for weeks after until I throw them out
Thanks for any help

More than enough!!! I would just go for orange - if people cant find something they like out of that lot then they should do without!

StealthPolarBear · 31/01/2008 19:54

ooh you're harsh but prob right!
OJ and grapefriut then, dh likes those so i can force feed him if it looks as though it's going to waste!
Thanks

An average of 6 glasses per bottle so

60 red wines
48 white wines
36 champagnes

Box lager? do you mean a case of cans? if so, 24 cans of lager and 12 beers.

So assuming that everyone has a glass of fizz, including the drivers, you are left with 24 people having 2.5 glasses of red wine, 2 glasses of white wine, half a beer and a can of lager each.

I think that's probably an elegant sufficiency

Dp's aunt came to stay once, we had tea/coffee, 4 different soft drink inc some sugar free, 2 types of fruit juice, 4 types of cordial, sparkiling water, rose and lager - after I went through the list shemade this face as if to say "is that it" and decided she didnt want anything... I was gobsmacked!

As a non-drinker I'd have to disagree with gmm, I would get some other juice as an alternative to orange - grapefruit if your dh will drink it is a good idea but perhaps the apple juice as well particularly. If it doesn't get drunk perhaps you could get someone who's driving and will enjoy it to take a little bit home. If you don't drink or even worse, can't drink because you're driving (or maybe pregnant again) and miss it, it's nice to feel included in a party by something you can enjoy too.

surely coke, lemonade, orange, apple, tonic or fizzy water is enough choice for anyone especially since its a sunday lunch type affair?

elkiedee · 31/01/2008 20:32

gmm, that's probably enough choice with orange or apple juice but you first said "just go for orange". 4/3/3 seems a bit high. Perhaps get 3 cartons of orange and 1/2 each of apple and grapefruit. 10 cartons of juice is more than you need if you have 12 non drinkers (just over a third of 35) and half of those are kids anyway who will probably prefer the fizzy drinks.

StealthPolarBear · 31/01/2008 21:15

my head's spinning!
ok, am doing orange, grapefruit and pineapple
and sp mush, whatever that is (can't read own writiong!)
ll thanks for working out the figures, when you put it like that there's obviously enough! Although we don't mind if there's lots of wine left over!

what were you meaning by half each elkie?
As it happens, we have loads of grapefruit as dh claims to like it but then doesn't drink the stuff so mybe just 2 pineapples and 3 orange?

ummmm we got people to bring their own drink so there was a fair and representative distribution of what people wanted to drink..
maybe a bit late for you to say that to your guests though?!

elkiedee · 31/01/2008 21:40

One or two of each but no more than 5 or 6 cartons of juice in total.

StealthPolarBear · 31/01/2008 21:52

I think so fairylights!
Plus most people will go straight to the church so they'd have to sit there in the service holding their vodka
oh no they'd leave them in the car wouldn't they? Still an amusing image
I think I'm done, thanks everyone. Have my tesco delivery booked for tomorrow
