50th celebration for introvert DH

My DH is lovely and fun but the idea of a big party freaks him out. It's his big 5-0 in June. I think he'd be happy with his sister, husband and adult (22 and 19) niece and nephew visiting and they're all lovely - just thinking what to do. We also have a 10yo DD who would need to be involved. His birthday's on the Friday and we're limited to celebrating from late Friday to Sunday lunchtime due to work... we are based on the Surrey/Hampshire/sussex border.

He doesn't like sporty stuff. Likes film/music/booze.

Ideas so far (interested in other ideas or opinions on the below):

  • hiring garden cinema
  • home cocktail mixing party
  • vineyard tour/afternoon tea
  • private dining room somewhere

...and I'm out... any inspiration? TIA...

Balloon ride?
Boat trip?
Meal out.

What does he want to do? My DH kindly 'planned' my birthday celebrations one year, I would much rather have organised something very small scale (or nothing) myself but went along with his plans .... surely at 50 your DH has the right to decide for himself what (if anything) he wants to do?

A night away in a good hotel. Country/ seaside walks, trip to museum or similar to see something he is interested in. Include Dd in some of it.

A night away somewhere.

Aviator in farnborough, Hampshire
4 seasons in hook, Hampshire
Crazy bear in beaconsfield

Have a night away with just both of you with a candle lit dinner on the Friday or Saturday.

Sunday a family walk and pub lunch / afternoon tea

Consult w DH. My 50th involved a cream tea w the family and watching Strictly together: my idea of perfect. I REALLY didn’t want a party despite others thinking I should (I hate parties and had one for my 40th).

What would he want to do? Mine would take a weekend away with me in the Few Forest with some nice food and walks a million times over a party any day.

Cocktail mixing segueing into garden cinema. Catered. Sounds lush but also relaxed.

What about a holiday cottage rental or hotel somewhere nice with family? Could be a city with lots to see & visit or countryside with walks and local pubs, depending on his interests

Thanks all, sorry for lack of reply - work went mental. Really appreciate the suggestions and also feedback around making sure I listen to him.

I think I'll go with a mix - a small scale surprise activity (he does like a surprise but nothing outside his comfort zone) and then make sure I listen to him and don't impose what I would want!

Thanks again.

Might be a little too late but maybe you and your DD can make something like a birthday video? She can sing a birthday song or just say something nice and then you add family pictures and something like this? Here are also some ideas and if there is still time you can ask other relatives or friends to film themselves saying nice things to you DH and then combine them into one video.

Oooh. Like that!
