Song suggestions needed for 7 year old girl's birthday party

I am starting to think ahead to DD's birthday party, and want to compile a musical playlist suitable for a room full of 7 year old children. Anticipate the music will sometimes be low and in the background, but may at other times be turned up for games and/or 'dancing' in between activities.

I'd like to have a section of 'quiet music' for ballerina-type swanning about, and also want an 'upbeat dance-y' selection for manic jigging.

Ideas/suggestions appreciated. Thank you!

What about a CD soundtrack of the Nutcracker, its got all sorts of music for dancing, Is she to old for Hi-5 music, they have some great songs for kids.

High School Musical CD would go down well for the jigging around piece I'd imagine! I am having my DDs 7th birthday party on Friday! What games are you planning? I usually get my 13 yo twin nieces to come and do glittery nails for them but they can't come this year - HELP. Am not going to have an entertainer...

Mummcgoo - I like Hi-5 songs, as they're cheerful, melodic and bouncy. Will look into their cds. Nutcracker also worth thinking about as it's familiar and good for wafting about.

shinners07 - High School Musical is very popular, so will check into that. DD's birthday is still 6 weeks away, so haven't got as far as planning games. Why don't you check out the archives to get games ideas. There have been lots of threads in the past, and you're sure to get some good ideas.
