New year's eve... may it pass quickly

Last year dh & I drank champagne & ate fois gras at home, which was great from about 8-9pm. We then went upstairs, switched on the tv & by 10:30, dh was snoring peacefully. I spent the rest of the evening clearing my throat, channel-hopping & feeling increasingly depressed. At midnight I opened the window & stuck my head out. Not a sound. Argh! Any ideas (that don't involve trying to find a babysitter) to avoid the same scenario this year?

I think it is pretty depresssing to try and chase the midnight moment in your own home. Either go out or just go to bed early I reckon. The first year we had ds I found NYE difficult but this year (4 years along) I will just go to bed at my usual time and wake up and enjoy New Years Day.
