Barmitzvah advice needed

We have been invited to a barmitzvah in a few weeks' time.

Never been to one before, please could someone advise me of etiquette?

Should we buy a present for the boy - it is his birthday after all - and should it be in the same league as, say, a wedding present? Would cash or vouchers be acceptable (13 y.o. boys being quite hard to buy for)

And should DH wear a little hat (we are not going to the synagogue bit, just the party).

Grateful for any advice - thanks.

An appropriate birthday present definitely, but it doesn't need to be super-special unless you know the family well. Cash/vouchers would be fine.

Your dh doesn't need to wear a hat if you're not going to the synagogue.

Enjoy.

if the party is in the synagogue hall, he will need a little hat ( yarmulke)

money or vouchers will be an acceptable present as PC has said.
