How old is too old for party bags?
I'm hopeful its around the age of 8!

I didn't do one for a ds1's Y3 party, so yes 8, and they all stood about looking hopeful and I stared back at them with my arms crossed. One boy even asked for one. And then they went home.

DS1 kept bringing some back over Y3 though, but I like to think I started their decline . . . .

oh good I'm going to look like the wicked witch the first time though aren't I! I'll have to practise my hard nosed stare and remember that all the other Mums will thank me for doing this!

Well done!

Also, I don't think he brought back bags as such, maybe just one thing, like one little Haribo bag or something. So you could go softly, softly and do that?

sorry we are still getting party bags here and DS1 turns 9 this year....

You don't have to do them tho. Why not just hand out one pressie like a book or a pound shop goodie?

WhizzFizzBadKitten · 06/11/2007 13:46

ok, I'll consider the weaning them off approach
don't want to traumatise the little dears!

We don't do party bags. A small pressie, a piece of cake and a balloon (if we've had any balloons - I don't like them so it's a good way of getting rid of them).

Some parents even write 'no party bags' on the invite.

I don't do them and never have, although party ends with a treasure hunt with a small something for everyone (this year books from the Book People zip-lock bag sets, last year little foam shooters from the tesco end of summer 75% off sale ).

My dd is 7 next week - for her party they are decorating a small cardboard box and making a bracelet with some of the thousands of beads she got given for her birthday last year!!

I detest party bags - full of plastic tat (usually) that clutters up the house and then gets thrown away a few weeks later - I say out with party bags!!
