DS will go to one of his pre-school friends 4 years old birthday party. I need suggestions for present.
I was thinking of asking his parents what he would like, but I don't know them very well and don't want to sound rude/inappropriate.
So what do you normally do?

Be careful about asking the parents, they may suggest something that's hard to get hold of, or too expensive, then you'd feel compelled to buy it.

I don't know much about boys toys, what about lego?

how much do you want to spend?
There are some nice lego sets for £5-7, or hama beads for a similar price.

Well, I bought several Creature Peepers and Kaleidabugs for my DS to give to his little friends who all turn 4/5 this year. There's always the Crayola art kits which are normally under a fiver. I've also stocked up on personalised swim bags (66% off from some catalogue called Ace which looked amazingly similar to those in GLTC but massively cheaper so I bought seven!). HTH.

I thought of Lego too, as my DS loves lego and he's got lots of different sets. The boys have been together at nursery for more than 2 years and they get along quite well, so I thought of spending around £10. Would that be ok?
Maybe you?re right about asking parents? How about asking the nursery staff? Maybe they know a bit more about this boy?s preferences?

TBH I would just go with what you think - lego, craft set from ELC, books, that kind of thing.

tesco sell the lego fire-truck for £7.99, which would be in your price bracket and which is quite a nice one.
