Does a child's party really need a theme?

I am doing a party for my 3 year old ds.
I am planning on making the cake and when he saw one of the books I was looking at proceeded to ask for every one of the cakes so I figured he really has no idea at this age what he really would like.

I'm planning on making a nice (but reasonably easy cake - something like a dinosaur or car)

I've bought some ballons and have a tweenie tablecloth and some tweenie paper cups that someone gave me (He loves the tweenies)

I am also going to cut out some crown templates and get them to decorate those (ds loves little princess)

I have a crocodile pinata as ds seems obsessed with them at the moment

My party bags are cheapo 20 for 50p ones and just have ballons on them.

I am also going to do some simple party games

As you can see there is no theme of any sort - it is pretty much a jumble of stuff but everywhere I look for ideas on parties starts with the premise that they have a theme.

So someone reassure me - the lack of a theme is not a problem is it? Can you tell I only have the one dc ?

No prob at all. A 3 year old just needs a cake and balloons for it to be a party.

Sounds great, you really don't need a theme at all.

Great I knew that really but it's nice to be reassured occasionally!

No not a problem, DD is having a 4th birthday oarty next week. Last year it was Pizza Hut as I was PG, and the year before just balloon themed stuff.

This year there's lots of different stuff. The only themed stuff is Dora blowouts and bubbles in the party bags.

All else is an eclectic gathering of stuff.

party bags are plain paper with sticker for name, dino sticker, football sticker, pirate sticker, lions, dolphins, hearts etc.

Have got picnic hamper type boxes for the food that come with cups and anpkins, better get a table cloth - had'nt thought of that!

Entertainment is bouncy castle, soft play and airflow.
