Help needed - ideas for wedding 'entertainment'

I'm getting married at the end of October...nothing fancy, just a ceremony at the local register office and then a meal afterwards for family and friends. Because we and most of our friends have children, we're not carrying on into the evening, but finishing around 6pm so that OH and I can go off for a couple of nights on our own whilst my mum looks after our girls at our house.

We've got about 15 children aged 2-7 coming, so I'm getting a bouncy castle (there's an outdoor courtyard at the restaurant so can put it there - just praying for dry weather) and someone to do games and stuff with them after their meal, and while the grown-ups sit down for their food. But there's going to be about 1.5 hours to fill at the end when we will have finished eating. Because it's the afternoon I sort of feel it's not dancing time but I'm worried people will sort of mill around and feel it's all a bit of an anti-climax. We're not having speeches or anything traditional, so I need to something to fill this gap. Does anyone have any ideas? It's only about 6 weeks away now, so I'm starting to panic!! Help!

How about hiring a mini casino? Friends of ours did this but it was a larger scale in a larger venue. I'm sure a small one would be just as much fun. Our friends had play money made up with a photo of them together printed on them instead of the queen's head.

What about a surfing simulator, bouncy boxing or inflatable sumo.

sparkler · 16/09/2007 21:23

pmsl @ Surfermum (helloooo!!) - are you drunk again?!!

Surfermum · 16/09/2007 21:28

Hellooooo. Not exactly drunk. Not in the Bournemouth and Poole meet-ups sense of the word. But I am wondering why I am drinking the night before my first ever school run.

The thought of my dad's wife (who I hate with a passion) and the inflatable sumo is just about temptation enough to try it [evil grin]. I had wondered about a magician, but I'm not sure I want something that means everyone has to sit and watch. I like the casino idea...will run it by OH. I do think I want some music though...

Oh god, there's a part of me that just wants to run away and do it on our own, but we've missed our opportunity to do that now ...wish we'd done it when we had the chance.

Thanks for the ideas so far...any more? [hopeful emoticon] .

Well then you HAVE to go for bouncy boxing and go in the ring with her!!

Friends of ours had a comedian to start their evening do off.

Karaoke? Admittedly it depends whether you and your family are the sort of people who love it or hate it, but it can be a lot of fun if you get someone who has a really varied selection of songs.

Try this guy, he does the complete wedding entertainment package. Entertainment for both the adults and children, he was the talking point of our wedding

He entertained the adult guests with some amazing close up magic at the tables during the wedding breakfast, and then entertained the children with a magic show during the speeches !!

I've been scouring the net for unique entertainment to fill the slot between our ceremony and meal, one gem I found was a company called Fancy Features. They paint murals for your guests to colour-in but I think we're going to get one of their 'Personalised Guess Who' games, I can't wait to surprise my family and friends!
