Not enough children coming, should we move the party to home?

DS is having his first proper party as he is turning 4. I invited all the children in his nursery, but it seems there is another party on the same day in the other class and so we only have about 10 confirmed. I am sure at least one parent will stay, so that would be about 20 kids + adults.

I had booked a hall and paid deposit for it already but now wondering whether it's better to move the party to home? The empty hall will probably emphasise how few people have turned up.

I feel a bit disappointed about the small number of confirmations. Our house isn't huge but if we clear up and move furniture to the side, there should be just about enough space for the kids and the entertainer, though it will be a tight squeeze.

Any thoughts? hall or home? Has anyone ever hosted a party in a hall with such few kids?

Normally more turn up than RSVP then count in siblings. I would keep it at the hall. Plan lots of running around games to make use of the space. Contact those who have RSVP'd to tell them siblings welcome and consider inviting any friends or families children as well as just class mates.

I would keep it in the hall. 10 adults, 10 preschoolers and the odd younger sibling will be a bit manic at home, unless you live in a palace.

Other options include moving the time of the party or finding a smaller hall, but it's much simpler to put a big smile on and just let the children enjoy having so much space. Large parties are overrated anyway. My children are into double figures now and their favourite parties have always been the smaller ones, because they got to spend their time with their closest friends. Both have chosen parties at home with a handful of friends this year, over much more exciting options.

Thank you - it will definitely be less stress having it outside. Hopefully DS will have a good time and be happy which is the whole point of it.
