Hi, I have decided to do an evening camping party for my DS who will be 8 and approx. 9 other children including his two sisters. Their ages range from 6 to 8 years. I am going to put up the tent in the garden, have a barbecue, play find the snakes and set the scene with bugs, lights, etc. Do you have anymore ideas I could add to this. Also do you think that the bugs, such as spiders in webs will scare them? A couple of his friends will be staying over in the tent and the others will be going home later in the evening.

This is such a lovely idea I'm surprised no-one else has responded. I've got no ideas to offer you cos I'm a bit crap at that kind of thing but think it will be great.

Wouldn't have thought the bugs would scare them. Or if it does, in a fun aaaarrrgghhh kind of way. Hope the weather stays good for you.

{Mo puts on her Guiding hat!} What about some camp fire songs? I can find you lots, if you're interested! Or how about playing something like, the shopping game, but adjust it for camping. I.e I went camping and I took XX with me. The next person then says, I went camping and I took XX and YY with me. You know the idea!

PeachesMcLean, I am pleased you like the idea, just trying to do something a little different for him without spending a fortune really.
MaureenMLove, some camp fire songs would be great - I think they would really like that!
Thank you both for your replies.

Sounds like a great idea. How about toasting marshmallows.

How about using a torch to do shadow puppets (either with hands or cut outs)

This is a good site for songs. Alice the Camel is a simple one to learn, as is B-I-N-G-O! Very repetative, but if you've got littlies, its easy for them to pick up the words.

I used to love Alice the camel

good grief Maureen, some of those take me back to Brownies ! And some are just plain odd

MaureenMLove · 22/08/2007 17:38

Bet you're all singing one in your head now! I've got a Guide and 2 Brownies in my house right now, who are all singing!

Thanks for the ideas - have printed the songs out to practice!
