We plan to give ds a 4th birthday party in October (it will be the first proper party he will have had), but most of his friends from nursery have gone on to school. We're not particularly friends with his old friends' parents, so he is unlikely to be seeing them again, and he'll be a year behind them if they end up at the same school.

Should we invite them, or should we concentrate on the new intake, even though he doesn't know them as well?

I'd go with the new intake. Most new parents wil be delighted their kids have an invite.

Go with the new intake especially if they are the children he'll go with when he moves to "big" school.

New Intake, it will also give you an opportunity to make new friends. My ds went to a party last weekend, his first ever invite, he recieved it 3 days after being at school, he was so excited that somebody thought of him as a friend.

We had the same problem, but as DS had been to a lot of the childrens parties who are now at school, we decided to invite some of them as well of some of the children still at nursery. We basically asked him who he wanted to come & got a fairly good list !
