What to do for 40th?

Hey, I was just looking for ideas and inspiration for my 40th in January next year. I have a small family but larger extended family on partners side. Not too many close friends. I don't know whether to have a meal, I don't think I know enough people to have a party/hire a hall. Just wondered what you all did? I'd like to celebrate in some way just not sure what!

For my 40th my dh and I stayed overnight in York, we enjoyed cocktails, a meal and went on a ghost tour.
I then arranged afternoon tea with about a dozen of my friends and family.

My friend who is popular had an evening party at a pub. Hardly anyone turned up. Was an awful shame.
I had an afternoon tea party with dc and close friends. All got dressed up smart!
July birthday and weather was lovely.
Dh(ex now) was a twat but whole thread's worth about that!
