100th BIRTHDAY PRESENT IDEAS???

My lovely Nana will be 100 this year and we are throwing a party for her.

But ....... what on earth can we get her?

She is in a nursing home with very little space for personal bits other than her photos of family etc.

One idea was for everyone to give money to go into a 'flower fund' so she will always have fresh flowers in her room from everyone.

Anyone got any different ideas please?

TIA

I like the idea of the flowera, imagine fresh flowers every week. Lovely.

Or maybe fresh wine

We bought my granny a really fabulous pashmina from Harvey Nicks for her 90th - and dinner out in the London restaurant she used to go to with her father as a child
Love the flowers idea, though!

Cece - she does usually have a bottle of ginger wine stashed in her wardrobe!!!! Think that's keeping her going

Hi Merlin!! 100?? Wow! Am trying to come up with some ideas for you but nothing jumped out at me yet. D'ya reckon she might fancy a birthday night out with us to Bumbles to celebrate?

Merlin · 17/07/2007 22:22

Good one Ruby - although she does have her hair done fairly regularly at mo. But not weekly.

Flower fund good idea or maybe a day trip fund?
Is she physically pretty able ,nursing homes can feel pretty institutionalized so it is good to get her out plus it would give her something to look forward to.
Maybe a nice 'proper' tea somewhere posh?
Tell me to shut up if i am on the wrong track.

ROFLMAO - she sounds like a right little minx!

Merlin · 17/07/2007 22:31

Unfortunately Pelvic she cannot walk, but she goes in a wheelchair taxi to come to my house or parent's ocasionally but TBH it is very tiring for her so not something to do on a regular basis.

I've hired a bouncy castle for the party ........... (for the kids silly )

Sparkler - where do you think I get it from?

On second thoughts a stripper or lunch club lap dance?

ChudleyMintonCanons · 17/07/2007 22:31

For my grandmother, the family put together a book of old photographs, a this is your life, with homes, friends, great grandchildren etc and had several copies printed. And whisky, lots of whisky

ChudleyMintonCanons · 17/07/2007 22:32

And we threw a huge tea party in her sheltered accommodation for all the residents, friends and relatives.

Merlin · 17/07/2007 22:33

lol Pelvic.

Chudley - nice idea, but for her 90th we had a big black and white photo montage done for her of family and friends which hangs on her wall so a bit similar.

I like the flower idea.

For my grandad's 90th the other week, I managed to get him an original Times from the day he was born. I found it on a website called historic newspapers or something - googled it.

sparkler · 17/07/2007 22:34

Hey don't forget to request the telegram from the Queen!!

Merlin · 17/07/2007 22:36

Dad has that in hand Sparkler - thanks.

Going to contact Echo about a photo too.

HH - hadn't thought of that one - will investigate - thanks.

How about a ride in a Limo - stop somewhere for a cream tea? Sounds lovely - I wouldn't mind that for my birthday.

sparkler · 17/07/2007 22:37

might be tricky to get her in though.

Merlin · 17/07/2007 22:39

Wouldn't get her in Sparkler - she stays in her wheelchair and is loaded into a special taxi and strapped in - bless her.
