Help - I have to organise a Harry Potter Party and a Jungle Party

Both this month.
Harry Potter party for DD1's 10th.
Have booked cinema tickets for OOTP.
Then back home for HP games and tea.
So far:
Sorting hat game (this involves shoving my mobile phone up a witches hat, stationing DH in next room with his mobile phone and a script to sort the guests into houses and then presenting child with homemade cloak, wand and house badge - if I can find somewhere on tinternet to download the bloody things from).
Pass the HP Parcel
Team games - Gryffindor v Ravenclaw
Smartie game
Can anyone think of anything else we could do?

Jungle party
This is for DD3's fifth birthday. I have no sodding idea what to do apart from sleeping lions and DH is getting stressed because all her friends have had entertainers at theirs and he fears they will be bored with our humble efforts.
I am planning on getting some camo netting from army surplus and some inflatable jungle animals but am otherwise short on ideas.
All suggestions gratefully received.

Re HP, what about a team quiz? There are some badges on ebay or this website might have something too.

The jungle thing, could you do a pinata? Or perhaps a fancy dress competition?

Sorry, not had much experience with birthday parties yet but didn't want your post to go unanswered!

have a look here masses of ideas

I had a cinema party then back to the house for DD's 6th birthday. The girls played pass the parcel and musical bits of paper(easier than chairs). Some of them asked to do some colouring, they fed practically a whole cucmber to the hamster and all enjoyed themselves. The next week at school the children told the parents how much fun they had as they were palyed with rather than just stiing and watching the same type of entertainer again and again. They need less amusement that you would think.

HP: "Pin the scar on the face" game. (or pin the hat on the wizard!}

you could get a chocolate mould in the shape of frogs and make chocolate frogs.

hunt the snakes: cut out some snake shapes and hide them all over the place and the winner is the house who collects the most. (could colour code the snakes so that team is only allowed to collect a certain colour)

put Bertie Bots every flavour beans(or jelly beans) into a bowl and kids have to transer them to another bowl using wands (or chopsticks)

HTH

MrsWeasley · 02/07/2007 14:23

transer or course means transfer

MrsWeasley · 02/07/2007 14:50

thinking allowed really so feel free to ignore but most pick kids up and will forget this idea later:

hang some hoops for the ceiling and play a game of quidditch using ballons, Red ones as quaffles (to score with)score, blues ones as bludgers (to put scores off with. Let go of a small yellow one as the snitch for when you want the game to end!

any good?

A treasure hunt would work for the jungle party too. You could either just have a free-for-all or you could give each child/pair a specific animal and the ones who find all of theirs first are the winners.

How about some arty stuff, like making animal masks for themselves?

Thanks for all the ideas guys. That website is fantastic Chippy. Who are all these overachieveing American mothers? Picked up some good ideas though!! DD3 did her invite list tonight - she wants 17 friends!!! Jungle is going to be a good theme I feel.
Mrs Weasley, DD1 loves the balloon Quidditch idea. Rosmerta, will do a quiz too. House points for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.

Would be happy to send it to you if you need it. just cat me your email address if you need it!

Bleedinggums those are great suggestions too. I will have a nice long games sessions with house points and announce the winning house at tea - I am going to have a Gryffindor and Ravenclaw table and stoke up the rivalry!

I have also just purchased some real Bertie Bott's jellybeans including vomit and ear wax flavours so am planning a little tasting game!

Thanks so much everyone for all your great suggestions.
