when your child has been invited to a party(of a child in their class they have only known a wee while) if your child won't be able to make the party?

you don't all buy presents do you?

please tell me I haven't made some huge social faux pas, in all the years my dd hasn't been able to make a party

i don't buy presents if they don't attend and as a mum i wouldn't my child expect to recieve one either.

Not normally no.

If it was a particular close friend or a family friend then I probably would. Other school friends, no.

no , not unless we know them well or are sick on the day.

No, but some people do. If I was holding the party and someone couldn't come, I would be embarrassed if they still gave a pressie, unless they were a good friend or family member.

I don't, unless it's a close friend.

a school mum phoned to say her child won't be at my dd's party, but she would give her a present... I was just putting my dd in the bath, changing beds etc.. generally doing my bed time headless chicken routine..... so I didn't say oh no don't... but I wondered if there is some kind of etiquette?

she was a really lovely mum.

Wouldn't normally unless it was a close friend, but would usually send a card. Or if you feel you should send a gift, just a small token gift.
