DH's 30th birthday party

DH turns 30 next year and wants a party. We looked at the local village hall but it's really expensive to hire so thought about doing it at home but more in the garden.

DS will be 1 and a half years old at that point so just wondering if anyone could advise on timings that would work? It would be on a Saturday in August. Early afternoon? And would you put a finish time?

Also, lots of our friends have babies or young children. Our DS will be one of the youngest. Could you suggest something to keep the kids entertained. I thought bouncy castle but will DS be a bit young for that?

I know it's a long way off but I'm a bit of a party planner... Well that's a lie but I loved planning my wedding and that was so long ago and since having DS, I've been a bit bored so would love something to look forward to!

have a kids corner somewhere, i would have a bouncy castle but toddler size, or maybe a ball pit? you can hire them out. i would also have some arts and crafts set out, the works do loads of great stuff.

don't forget to have a back up plan for if it rains, maybe you should get a marque in the garden?

i would do 3-9, if lots of people have kids as you say. however, i have been to 2 or 3 parties where there have been kids zones. basically, they turned their playrooms/living rooms into a sleep space, with blankets, fairy lights and sleeping bags, so that the adults could continue to party, and so that the party could start later. it seemed to work really well, my dcs loved it!
