Tea party

Hi, we cant afford a party for our daughter’s 7th Birthday this year as Hubby lost his job. We’ve said our daughter can invite her 2 best friends over for tea after school..which I’ve never done before. Should I plan activities with them, or just let them play? Any tips or ideas on activities? I was thinking they could decorate some cupcakes? Thanks

Cupcake decorating is a really good idea. They could also make their own pizza for tea (that will help to pass some time) or if the weather is nice have a little picnic. If your DD likes unicorns i've just seen a 'pin the horn on the unicorn' thing in Asda for £1.

You could hide pieces of a jigsaw puzzle around the house/garden for them to find and then make the puzzle.
My DD and her friends would spend ages making Hama bead creations and I would iron them just before the friends went home.
If you buy a set of beads like this www.hobbycraft.co.uk/assorted-bright-bead-box-kit-600-pieces/636673-1000 and some cord, they could make bracelets and necklaces.
If you have some old glass jars, tissue paper and sequins you could make tea light holders. They're really effective. theimaginationtree.com/jam-jar-and-tissue-paper-luminaries/

you could also do glow in the dark bowling. all you need are plastic bottles, glow sticks and a all. place the glow sticks in the bottle and you are finished!

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions. I got plain fairy cakes and cookies for them to decorate, but they just wanted to play hide and seek, play in the garden and with toys! I put out a spread of sandwiches and cakes too. Then at the end I bought teddies for them to fill with stuffing and little t-shirts for their teddies which they could draw on with textile markers. They all seemed to have a good time! x
