My son will be turning five and would like to have 12-15 or so people to his party. So I’d love to hear your experiences of great parties for 5 year olds. It doesn’t particularly need to be a budget party but just great fun!

As no one else answered I can tell you about a 4th birthday party done very well where my daughter was a guest
-arrival of guests

  • cake and juice
  • spin the bottle for the guests to give present to birthday girl
  • musical chairs
  • pot banging (2 blindfolded kids with a wooden spoon race to find a pot by banging on the floor with the other kids shouting hotter, colder. Prize under pot which dings when you hit it)
  • theatre show by birthday child parent and older sibling with poems/sketches all kids knew from nursery
  • treasure hunt in the garden
  • sausages and hot kids punch outside for dinner
-pick up time

My own 5-year-olds party. We had a beach bbq and it was perfect. Just luck as it could have been torrential rain.

In our bit of Oz, 5yo parties are either held at an amusement centre (trampolines or inflatable obstacle courses or laser tag arcades) or just a simple play at the park after school with crisps, sweets and cake. As long as the party bags are good, most kids declare every party to be the best ever. Wink

Whereabouts are you op? The best kids party I’ve ever been to was with an entertainer called “magic russ”. He’s based in the Birmingham area. He was amazing. All the adults were in stitches and had just as good a time as the kids. It was a disco/magic type affair. Utterly fab.
