I've said it before, but i think party bags suck, and will NOT be sending any home at dd1's party in 2 weeks time. I feel quite liberated by my decision.

would anyone like to join me in my humble protest against the party bag phenomenom?

I did- or is it I didn't for ds's party a couple of months ago. I bought bags of Haribo's when it was bogof and each child got to lucky dip into a big party bag on the way home. Kids loved it- thinking they were getting them all to themselves!!!

NotQuiteCockney · 22/02/2007 21:43

I had no party bags at the DSes parties in September. I gave each child a book (book people or similar) instead.

hatwoman · 22/02/2007 21:45

yep. we did titchy bag of haribo each for dd2, dd1 was cake and a balloon animal. I've had it with party bags. may they never darken our parties again

noonar · 22/02/2007 21:49

we are giving red noses for dd1's 5th birthday in march. so it'll be in aid of comic relief.

i actually think we should give absolutely nothing, except a piece of cake. think that's what i'll do next year.

Nooo, I love em!

noonar · 22/02/2007 21:50

are you serious??

I am thinking of doing little cups/plastic beakers this year - will add shredded paper at bottom and top with cake (DD's cake is to be lots of little cup ckaes so should fit fine) and then maybe add 4 or 5 mini eggs, or similar round bun.

I did books last yeat.

Wish I was brave enough to get rid. With potentially 25+ children coming party bags get very expensive.

How did the lucky dip work? What did you put them in and how did you organise it for the children dipping?

Kbear · 22/02/2007 21:54

Yes, I love making them and finding good things to put in. Not plastic crap, cool stuff! Girls love them. It's only for a few years and it's a bit of fun. gwan gwan gwan

funnypeculiar · 22/02/2007 21:56

Everyone had a gingerbread man after ds's party weekend before last. No plastic tat thank you.

AND we got lots of thank you for the best party ever emails afterwards

noonar · 22/02/2007 21:57

kbear. i do not find them fun at all. plastic ans suagar in a bag is the morm nothing fun about it. if you like them, ok, but i hate the way people feel obliged to do them .

I'm with KBear on this one.

Kbear · 22/02/2007 21:59

I don't feel obliged though, I do it because it's fun and I enjoy it. Last year I did little bouquets of flowers for DD's friends. It's just a little "thank you for coming" thing and the kids don't care as long as they get a piece of cake and a balloon in it!

noonar · 22/02/2007 21:59

omg, sorry about dreadful typing.

This year DD's friends got a glowstick bracelet, a bit of cake and I put together a CD of party songs for each of them and decorated them with stickers.

mateychops · 22/02/2007 22:02

Brilliant idea, KBear! Can I nick that one?

noonar · 22/02/2007 22:03

humbug

(shuffles over to noonar in party dress)

Would you like to share a bit of my cake? It's still got the tissue stuck to it.

noonar · 22/02/2007 22:06

yummeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

...and we can listen to the music that Kbear made for us too, while waving our glowstick bracelets in the air.

pointydog · 22/02/2007 22:15

It's a small child's birthday.

Does their opinion not count?

noonar · 22/02/2007 22:17

yes pointy, it does, which is why she's chosen the entertainer, the guests and the disney tableware! she's going to have a fab time. my views on party bags wont spoil it for her. honest.
