I am hoping 50%...but DS went to another party a couple of months ago and he was the only child from his nursery who went (despite loads having been invited).

Ds will be 3 and I reckon 10 would be a nice number. Not all will be from nursery, but the majority will.

The thing is I don;t really "know" the parents to ask in person as we all drop off & pick up at different times...I would get more of a feeling if I knew them, I think.

But what if all 20 said yes

I have often banked on 25% not being able to come only to end up with full attendance. Why not invite the amount you want plus one or two more? IS there a reason why you have to invite that number? One friend of mine overtly does and "A" and "B" invite list - i.e. invites first batch early then second batch depends on how many have already said they can't come. This only works if you have different groups to invite say a nursery/school group, an antenatal friends' kids' group etc.

Yes I could limit the list but it's a bit all or nothing. Ds has just moved up a group in nursery, so friends in both groups, and because he goes every day he knows all teh children. Also I can;t really ask just the ones he says he wants because he's not really reliable - he'll say different names one day than the next.

I guess I will have to go with 20-odd and see what happens!

have already threatened DH he will have to dress up as a clown and do magic tricks if loads come.

Aha, the unwritten law of party invitations:
send out a handful because you only want a handful - and no one can come
send out loads because you reckon they can't all be able to come - and they can all come
It is written thus to send us all into a spin
