They have already said they don't want any more bits of tat ornaments/clocks etc for around the house. But it would be nice to give them something to celebrate.
I have several siblings, so can share the cost - anyone have any original ideas. thanks

send them up for a helicopter/hot air balloon flight then out for lunch, and give them a lovely framed photo of all the kids and grandkids as a keepsake. As you say, people married 50 years don't need anymore 'stuff' about the house

We did the whole family photo thing for DH's grandparents and they loved it

If they like gardening you could get them one of these .

We bought the outlaws a trip on the Orient Express for their Golden Wedding.

I know for my grandparents 50th several years ago my parents got hold of a copy of one of their wedding photos, had it professionally restored (was before my dad started his business up or he'd have done it himself) and enlarged and framed - along with a clip from the newspaper which they'd kept.

or if they already have a decent wedding photo - do they have lots of photos lying around (in drawers, cupboards etc) that have seen better days? Perhaps get them restored and buy a lovely album to put them in.

Where di they honeymoon? Could you arrange another trip there?

Chauffeur limo to a wonderful restaurant where you all meet them and surprise them and then a family photo. Golden Wedding anniversaries should be truly celebrated.

A newspaper from the day they were married?

We had lots of old photos around the house.
My brother put them ao a DVD for them to view. It shows them from when they got married to their children(us) the whole family thro the years all weddings and eventually grandchildren.
They loved it.

I think you should throw a huge party with all of their friends, old friends especially. I agree that they should be truly celebrated.
