Decorating the house for a party.... for DD

I want to make our dining room and living room a bit special for DD's birthday this week.

So far I have made a door curtain out of silver and pink crepe paper so the girls can swish through from room to room. I have balloons and some streamers.

Does anyone else do this? I need some ideas to make her eyes light up (and to make it a bit more memorable than just tea round the table and bit of dancing!).

How about lots of fairy lights?

Katymac · 28/01/2007 22:19

Hire/borrow a bubble machine??

Kbear · 28/01/2007 22:21

JackieNo - fan-f**king fantastic idea - why am I so dense, twas so obvious. Of course, asking DH to get them out of the loft is another hurdle (I don't do ladders!) but he'll do anything for his girl.

I think a bubble machine might incite a riot but a good idea for a hall I think.

KBear - you're obviously far too efficient - our Christmas decorations are still in the spare room waiting to go back in the loft.

Yes, Party pieces has loads of lovely bits and pieces

Kbear · 28/01/2007 22:26

Jackie - if we had a spare room you can be sure they'd be in there! I nagged DH to put the last of them up in the loft yesterday if you can believe it, which is why he will have a kingsize moan if I ask him to get them down again! ha ha

'Birthdays' have some class stuff
what age will she be kbear?

JackieNo · 28/01/2007 22:38

Some huge posters ?

JackieNo · 28/01/2007 22:40

More scene setter posters , including a fairy castle

JanH · 28/01/2007 22:49

Do you have any pink/white/lilac sheets? We had a circus party for DD1 when she was about 5 and draped the walls of the dining room in paractically all the sheets we owned - mostly to hide the horrible walls, and it was a complete mish-mash, but the kids loved it!

Or you could hang them middle-to-corners as a sort of tent ceiling?

JanH · 28/01/2007 22:50

(Our Christmas decs are still boxed in the front room - haven't even got up the stairs yet )

Kbear · 28/01/2007 22:51

I have just made bunting! on the PC, found a triangle, flipped it, coloured it pink, wrote Happy Birthday DD 8 Today, printed it and I'm now threading it. How simple was that once the idea was there!!

THANKS

Fairy lights would be perfect, what about some fabric bunting?

BettySpaghetti · 29/01/2007 09:41

Woolworths usually have some cheap glitterballs/disco lights if you want moving lights and a disco atmosphere for the dancing.

paulaplumpbottom · 29/01/2007 12:23

Give them all fluffy pink feather boas instead of a party bag

Kbear · 29/01/2007 12:32

Did feather boas a couple of years ago - went down a storm! Last year I gave them a little bouquet of flowers as it was a dancing party.

This year's bright idea is a compilation CD (Kylie, Hannah Montana, High School Musical etc) in a pink or purple case which I have just covered with stickers from the pound shop. They look great.

I made a door curtain out of crepe paper - looks fab if I say so myself.

We are going to need to see a photo of the finished room!

Great ideas.

Kbear · 29/01/2007 12:36

I am stressing because I'm at work for the next three days so I have to get organised in the house today, move furniture etc etc. Friday will consist of shopping for party food, making the cake and general faffing.

I love parties though!

I want to see a pic to.

Love the compilation CD idea.

Kbear · 03/02/2007 08:34

It was a great party. It's going to take me a week to take the decorations down again! Will post a picture when my mum sends me them from her digital camera.

Roll on next year.
