congratulations Hertfordshirenanny.
If you are on a budget I would suggest that you ask around your friends and family and found a dedent amatuer photographer who is going to be invited to the wedding anyway and ask them if they would do the honours. Our offical Peter Dyer photographs were pants compared to those taken by a friend on his black and white disposable!!
Would you like a tradional dress? Would you consider second hand?
My friend, who lives in Cheshunt, makes the best best wedding and novelty cakes. She is cheaper than most but i seem to remember the cake cost being one of the things that i had no idea about and they are more expenisve than I thought (guess because I never buy them, I get all mine for free _. I can give you her name and number if you like but you must move fast. June really is not that long away.
What sort of car do you want to have?
Again, you can save a lot of money here if you have some friends or family who have decent newish cars that scrub up well. most cars look lovely with some ribbon on the front.
Where are you getting married and having your reception?

HERTFORDSHIRENANNY · 17/01/2007 14:45

Peter Dyer im sure I have his details and he is about a grand! (so are most mind you).
thanks for the congrats btw. im having it a the registry office in cheshunt then at a local pub who are shutting off their back bar and conservatory off at no charge so long as we are drinking....and we will be! there is also a nice garden there for the children to play in it the weather is nice.
Not sure about the dress...looking around but have my 1st app. at dress shop next fri.. heard ihave to get sorted out as it can take 5 months! Are you near me? is your cake friend local.........I havent got a cake sorted out yet and would love to know what she charges.

She lives in Cheshunt and has a shop in Hertford (Sugarsmiths). Her name is Linda and her number is 01992 635586. She said if you want to keep the cost down you can always have a dummy tier. what date is the wedding?

HERTFORDSHIRENANNY · 17/01/2007 15:45

June 30th , think I will give her a call, how much time does it usually take?

Hi HN - we lived in Broxbourne when we got married 6 years ago. We used Alan Birch for photography. He's based in Ware, and we know other friends have been happy with him more recently too. Doubt you'll find any pro for less than a grand these days.

For car we used I think Lords (racking my brain to remember if that is right!). They have good brochure and I think will lend you a vid to see the cars too. I do think that wedding cars are a luxury though, and it was the first thing we were prepared to do without if we couldn't afford it. Just stick a ribbon on the car of whichever of your friends/family has the nicest one!

Sounds like you might have a supplier for the cake now. Ours was a bit of a jaunt away (think Hatfield Heath or something like that), and was arranged through MIL. If you are still struggling then let me know and I'll ask her next time I speak if she is still doing it and try to get her details again.

Got my dress in London so no help there I'm afraid. Is there a wedding show on between now and then? That would be good for getting all the little bits and bobs.

Flowers were done by a friend of MIL (who has done flowers for Westminster Abbey, so not just any old friend!). Again I'm sure I could get her number if you want, but not sure she would help with your 'tight budget'!
