I'd go for books.
Look on the Book People website. They have great sets of books for all age groups, average price £1.00 per book (retail price £4.99).
Bought loads of these when I was on the PTA.

thanks for the replies. books seem like a great idea. Luckily the school is really small, there are only 65 children to buy for.
Any other suggestions are welcome. Has anyone seen any special offers on games, saw some in woolworths?

Lidl has board games for £3.99 each from next Mon - also huge arts & crafts set from this Sat, also £3.99.

And remote control cars from Sat too but £4.99 so too much really.
