DS will be one in late May and we were going to combine a party with friends with similar age children.
Assuming the weather will be pleasant, what would you do? Too young for a theme etc but I want them to enjoy the outdoors and of course for all parents to relax too!

Any success stories?

At one? Picnic in a local beauty spot, or someone's garden, or local petting farm at a stretch. Wherever the parents want. The babies won't much care.

Totally agree with RatOnnaStick - the first couple of birthday parties are for YOU to enjoy.

100% a picnic! It can be as elaborate as you like - keep it simple in the back garden or head out somewhere like a local park (parks trust style) and get out the bunting! Nice and relaxing :) Here in Milton Keynes, there was a big summer weekend in the summer at a canal/park/oldhouse which was lovely, there was stalls and rides, but (even though there was children with us) we just set out the picnic blanket, enjoyed some music that was playing in the distance and watched the kids play around a huge tree - heaven.
