As the title says really...would you travel 30 mins for a birthday party?(soft play centre type thing) or would kids prefer something more local like a sports centre of which there have been many parties already?

I have hosted a couple of parties that have been 20-30 minutes drive.i took a couple of children to 1 of them as they didn't have transport.

30 mins would acceptable to us but we are pretty rural so if wanting more than church hire (which is lovely but sometimes you just fancy a change) then it involves travel.

What age group? We found once school age there's always someone to share lifts with.

We went to a soft play and bowling place recently, was about a half hour plus about another ten minutes stuck in the hellhole traffic system. Did feel a bit of a trek but might have been bearable without the awful weekend traffic.

I have thought about booking a really good party 30 mins away. I would offer transport. Either a minibus or both parents and grandparents drive a few children each.

We have declined a party invite recently that was at a soft play type venue 30 mins away. There are lots of possibilities closer by and it meant 3+ hrs rather than 2. It was a whole class party and I think most were going.

Depends how old, but probably yes. Folk drove further for DS's 6th birthday party.

Thank you for the replies, it would be for reception class where many of the children play with each other but not many close friendships in the class so it's hard to see how many would make the effort. I was thinking something local originally but at the same time am wary about hiring a big venue incase not many turn up, so am trying to think of something not many parents have done yet!
