Sherlock themed dinner dance... Help!!

DH and I are going to a black tie do in a weeks time which I am really looking forward to save for the rubbish theme. I love Sherlock Holmes but as fancy dress?? I could get a Victorian style dress but frankly I don't want to spend a fortune plus I'll just get too hot for the disco and that's the best bit! DH is wearing black tie and has a pipe and magnifying glass. But I just can't get inspired. Any ideas??

Or go as "The Adventure of the Cardboard Box" (I'm thinking literally, cardboard box costume, rather than theming costume around the actual contents of the story; that would be a bit icky)
