Circus themed fancy dress for DD(5) but please no clowns...

Hi
Any creative, unusual and easy ( not asking much, I know) ideas for circus theme fancy dress? Keen to avoid clowns but that is all I have seen to have found when googling. Am more than happy to make it rather than buy as it is a competition for school fete!

We have to dress dd2 (year 1) as a circus performer on Wednesday as entry point day for her circus topic. She's going to go as a performing dog trainer so we,re going to tie her favourite toy dog inside a hula hoop with fishing line (as if the dog is jumping through). She will wear her hair in bunches with glitter spray and ribbons, shorts and a tshirt with paw prints on it (old t shirt with iron on diamanté paw prints from the discount bin at the craft shop), a rainbow bow tie and trainers, should do the trick.....

Bearded lady?

I guarantee there won't be another :)

Strong man?

Big top?Make a big multi coloured tutu with ribbons coming off. And make a hat/headpiece with a cardboard flag.

Acrobat. Google cirque de soleil pics and go mad with elaborate face/body painting!

Lion?

I did an aladin type costume for ds once and sent him as a sword swallower.

Strong man in a leopardskin or maybe red leotard and giant weights made of black balloons on a pole. Draw her a fake stubbly beard. Black boots.
