What do you think of this party arrangement for 4th birthday?

The soft play (groan) where ds wants his party is not available exclusively (except for 6-8pm, too late for 4 yr olds).

However, I've just looked at the website and it's possible to have a party there for 'toddlers' so in term time but before 3pm. Ds2 will only be in school nursery in the afternoons so I'm wondering about having his party from 10am-12pm and then nursery starts at 12.55pm. I originally thought about doing it Friday morning but the children might be quite tired by Friday making afternoon nursery a bit of a nightmare, so I could do it Monday morning instead so afternoon nursery hopefully not such a big problem.

I'm thinking that term time mornings are going to be fairly quiet here compared to weekend or after school but what do you think about having to go to nursery after? If you received this invite for your 3/4 yr old what would you think?

I think its fine, though maybe a Tuesday or Wednesday would be better, as many people use mondays to pay bills arrange appointments etc.

What about if people work? Or is that not likely if they are using afternoon school nursery? Hmmm....

Is the soft play area within easy reach of nursery? Ds2 was invited to a party after pre-school once - pre-school finished at 11.30, party was at 12. Which was fine for those parents who have a car but not so good for those who don't drive, like me.

I guess some of the younger children might be over-tired for nursery after the party - but it's only for one day, isn't it? I'd have the party on the day that suits you and not worry too much about it.

GdG I think that would be fine. Quieter in the day anyway. Yes, you might well get parents who couldn't come (I wouldn't be able to) but that's not the end of the world.
There are always refusals anyway.

Are you in Mcr GDG? All my play areas were booked up as well apart from 6-8, managed to get one on her birthday for 4.30-6.30pm.

Maybe we have been scrapping for the same ones??!!

OO - yes, I'm after Head over Heels in Chorlton! Have not rung about availability yet. I'm hoping weekday mornings won't be so booked up!!

Thanks for all your replies. It's good to know most of you don't see it as a problem. I prefer this to the weekend as the weekends are so hectic anyway. Plus his birthday is bonfire night so everyone is usually doing stuff then anyway.

I could do it 4.30 to 6.30 but it's £1 per child more expensive and I think it would be busier generally with older kids coming in after school. As these are 3/4 yr olds the general environment might be nicer for them during the day.

Well, I wondered that earlier in the thread. But ds2's friends are going to be from afternoon school nursery which is only from 12.55 to 3.25 so I'm guessing that most of them are not going to have parents that work - the ones that I know already don't work and perhaps where there is an issue, other parents will offer to help. I know I've done that in the past.

If a parent works then it's also going to be an issue after school isn't it?

Book it when you can I have just book Dd1s party for December and the time before hers was already taken.

Echoes Marthamo about the transport thing , we went to a party once like this and had to get the bus back to nursery and were late.

Thanks Nikkie - no, you couldn't bus it, it needs a drive. I don't know any of the mums, so far, that don't drive but if it was a problem for anyone I'm sure we'd all pull together. I've got a 7 seater for a start!

So apart from possible transport problems, nobody sees a problem with it being a weekday morning with nursery after?
