ADVICE PLEASE for small present for 8yo boy and 12yo girl

(Girl may be a bit younger actually, 11 maybe.)

About to visit friend who has her own toddler, a new baby and 2 new stepchildren - I've got gifts for the first two but have never met the stepkids before and would like to get them a little something as they may be as bemused by all the attention the baby's getting as the toddler is.

Haven't a clue about this age group tho and it doesn't help that I don't know anything about them. Please help!

8yo boy:

yu gi oh cards (they're £7)
football stickers or somethng football related

can't go wrong there ime. But no idea about 12yo, sorry!

Magazines like Beano and Dandy and they have summer specials too.

For the 11year old they have girls mags too. My DD reads Girl Talk but that is def too young for her.

For 12 year old girl - a pretty necklace or bracelet. If you have a Claires Accessories near you have a shuft as this must be their target market.

That's lovely of you, Franch. Agree with www re yugioh cards or football stuff for the 8 year old boy- ime most boys this age are either genuinely passionate about one or other of them or have a strong need to a show at least a modicum of interest because all their friends are passionate about them.

Son (7) just said "12 year old girl? She needs to get her 'Girl yu gi oh' cards" Lol- rest my case about what to get the boy.

Other son says get her a game of battleships? A game could be good I guess.

I vote for a token myself though.

I had hoped that innit would fade from his vocabulary a few weeks in to the holidays.

Agree, it doesn't seem to matter. 2 blue eyes bright dragon appear to be even better than 1!

my dd is 12, and she would rather have money for clothes or something, or a voucher.

I don't feel very comfortable bunging them a few quid really - they're very well off apart from anything else, and would probably be embarrassed by any paltry sum I could offer! Just wanted to make a little gesture, something fun, to make them feel included iyswim

what about a cd or something. it is hard isnt it.. because they are older you dont know what to get them.. like my dd(12) would think you were being funny if you bought her bath things.. thinking that u were implying that she needs a bath or perfume.. that she stinks.. funny isnt it lol Dd would be happy with a cd or a book or a nice notebook with gell pens..

Notebook idea's nice. Wouldn't know where to start with music.

franch I am so sorry that blasted bed guard is still under my bed (we are selling the house and I found it yesterday and thought of you) I hope that when we were arranging its drop off word got to you of my trouble and hospital admission etc. anyway good to 'see you' i'm sure the DC you wanted it for is long passed the need of it now?

Oh Xena no I didn't hear about your trouble - so sorry. We would still find the bedguard useful (DD1 is only just about to go into a big bed), but have moved to SW4 and DH is working at a different hospital!

My DH doesn't work their anymore either. I'm fine now just rattle a bit when I walk due to all the medication DH's dad died as well earlier this year (unexpectly) and after being ill has made us take stock abit and are looking to move to the west country and take life at a slower pace with more time for the 4dc's

Went today but the older ones were at their mum's! Luckily I found out in time. So will save the gift ideas for next time!
