Teddy bear's picnic? All the kiddies bring their favourite teddy with them and you eat the food sat on the floor on picnic blankets, have a sing-along, pass the parcel type games?

IME at 2nd birthday parties most of them are quite happy to just play and maybe try one game of pass the parcel, put a few balloons around for them to play with, some tea and lots of tea and/or wine for the Mummies!

Agree with Tommy. We had a bbq for parents as well as kids, filled the paddling pool up, put sandpit out and a few toys and let them get on with it whilst we sipped wine! Then did a birthday tea and cake.

Friend did the whole proper party thing with games etc and to be honest the 2 year olds all looked a bit bewildered

Save the big bash for future years!

When ds3 is 2 think I'm going to have a play dough party. Probably be 4 two year olds, their older siblings (oldest will be 7) and parents. Agree that they will probably just play with toys generally but the older ones will want to know what 'theme' it is and lots of play dough will amuse them all when they arrive. Then serve pasta and cake for everyone.

old macdonald - everyone comes dressed up based on the rhyme

ive decided to have a fancy dress party for the little ones...and also having their foods and probably they be running around too in the house!...will that be enough? or still best to do the pass the parcel game too (as i havent really got much money to spend as ive bought dd's bday pressie already)

For ds's 2nd b'day I made loads of fairy cakes and gave them those plus lots and lots of different toppings and bowls of icing. The mess was unbelievable but it kept them entertained for ages. Should be okay for older ones too, they could make them look like pigs/teddies etc.

biglips · 08/09/2006 14:19

what did you do about the party bags? (when the little ones goes home as i know you put a slice of birthday cake in it - anything else?)

Hi for my DS birthday I didn't put a piece of cake in the party bag we had it during the party. We had party buckets instead (looked like little castles) and I put in some crayons, a paint with water book, a little car and a play pair of glasses. Just went to a Tesco Extra and stocked up really The buckets were 93p there though it was July
My DD and her friend were kept entertained by being deemed the "party planners" and ran around doing music, pass the parcel and doing magic tricks
