decided to have a small party at home for dc, who will be 4. just invited a few children he plays with at nursery. invitations were handed out yesterday, but i haven't heard from anyone yet. what if nobody comes? if no-one replies do i assume no-one is coming ? i will be so sad. this is the first b'day party he's had.

It's been less than a day

Maybe the bags haven't been checked yet

MirandaWest · 08/01/2014 17:18

When's the party and how many children have you invited?

Bookaboo · 08/01/2014 17:22

Maybe they don't take their bags home until the end of the week? Any LP's might need to arrange a babysitter for siblings, I always did and that took a while.

I'm organised but I rarely get chance to reply the day we get them. I generally do it within a week though.

Have you heard anything op??!

Bookaboo · 11/01/2014 10:32

i've had some replies at last, phew! still 3 that haven't replied, but less of a worry now. i've learnt something from this and will always reply to invitations as soon as i can! now onto the business of worrying about the actual party!

My son is in his first year at primary. I sent out his invites on 11 Dec as of Tues 13 hadn't replied. His party was today and out of 30 kids, one rsvp'd No, 1 was sick and 3 were no shows. The rest of the kids came. When I asked the parents if their kids were coming they said that they only rsvpd with regrets if they don't respond then they are definitely coming!

IrisWildthyme · 11/01/2014 23:33

If you don't put something very explicit on the invites e.g. "Please RSVP by the 15th so we can confirm catering numbers" lots of people will not bother RSVPing.

Welcome to the world of children's parties. They are a pain in the arse and the first stumbling block is that you're meant to be telepathic about who will come. They don't bother to answer, they answer but forget to come, they turn up with an extra sibling, there's just no telling. Good luck.
