Birthday party/celebration ideas for 7 year old girl

Anyone any ideas what we can do for dd's 7th birthday?
We don't have a huge amount of space or a garden so a party at home isn't really very feasible (we did it a couple of times and it all ended in tears )
Last year we hired the local indoor activity "softplay" type venue which was a great success. She doesn't mind if it is for loads of people or a special treat for just a handful of close friends.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Posey - my dd is 11 next week and I've tried to give her good parties every year. We've had farm parties (do you have a local hands on type farm?), a Harry Potter dress up party where we made a talking "sorting hat" and then each house did various activities like wand making, potion making, etc followed by wizard type food. We've also had a horse riding party (can be quite expensive and numbers would usually be limited to about 8. We've had a Hawaiian party (at home) where everyone came in beach wear and we did limbo dancing and musical "pineapples" etc. Food was tropical. Obviously we've had a disco party - great for girls, boys didn't seem to join in too much. This year we're having a horse race night (usually fundraising but can be adapted for house party). Hope there are some ideas here. Also pottery parties are quite popular and for a very select few The Bear Factory do a nice party but bloody pricey!!!!! Good luck.

ask your local nail place if they would do the kids? and get a hirdresser or local Mum who does hair to do funky styles
a sleepover?
cinema nd pizza hut?
Bowling?
swimming?

We always have home parties and restrict it to 8 guests plus 2 daughters. We've done various ones, including Harry Potter, puppet making, "posh restaurant tea", tea party, Wizard Of Oz. This time we had a (non-sleepover) pj party which was great - they played games and spent ages on the Twister Dance Moves game. otherwise how about a trip to the cinema or to a local restaurant?
