Which invitation would you decline?

Just got an invite for my 8y old DS to a birthday party, for this weekend (short notice). He is already invited to somebody else?s birthday on the same day and roughly the same time.

I would normally send excuses for the second invite (which arrived later), as we?ve already made plans, but feeling a bit unsure about it as this is DS?s absolute best friend since they started school, and if given choice I?m sure that my DS would prefer to go to his best friend?s birthday rather than the other one, and might feel dissapointed / let down if he can?t go.

No doubt the boys will be talking about it in school so DS will know he missed his best mate?s birthday, eventually.

Well that's life, you've already accepted an invitation so you should go to that. Unless you said yes ds can come to your birthday, unless a better offer comes along.

If it's his absolute best friend how come he hasn't heard about the party before now? In my experience that talk about their parties ages in advance!

Yes, that's entirely possible, and great idea! This boy is sometimes staying at ours for sleepovers too, so I can arrange that if they would like (I bet they would).

You might find that bf's mum will end up changing if the group of friends are already going to another party. She won't want an empty party, so let her know that you've already accepted the other invite asap, just in case all the other children she has invited are going as well!

No, not heard about the party up to now, neither from children nor from parents. I agree this is a short notice, but it is what it is. (Not for me to judge.)

NumTumDeDum, I know what you mean, but no it's completely separate groups of friends/children, not from the same class etc.
