Unbirthday Party - Have you held one? Are you planning one? Come Tell All ..

No summer birthdays in this house so I'm planning an Unbirthday party for August time.

Come and share ideas if your planning something similar or if you have already organised one.

My children have November birthdays, so they have their parties then. I don't have any unbirthday parties, but they do usually have a back to school party at the end of August. For this, it's usually a few friends round to the house for food, bouncing on the trampoline and then I tend to do a few games that don't need prizes like wink murder, forfeits game etc...

Omg I haven't played wink murder for years! Had forgotten all about that game! Loved it - was worth starting the thread just for that Grin

I was thinking of an Unbirthday party in the theme of Alice in Wonderland. I'm on Pinterest at the moment stealing all their ideas Grin. Some great pics on there.

Two summers ago we had a 'party for no reason'. I had been very ill indeed and it was really a thank fuck I'm still alive party.

I wanted to get family and friends together in a relaxed environment. Sort of like a wedding but with no formal dress code or obligation to attend. So everybody who came was just there for a fun time.

We did it in a relatives large garden, we got a marquee from eBay and later sold it for the price we bought it for. We made a shit load of bunting and decked the garden out like a summer fete. We got a bulk order of plastic ducks from eBay and did a paddling pool of hook a duck and made a 'bat the rat' from drainpipe and a rat from a pair of tights filled with sand.

We filled the roof of the tent with helium balloons which everyone took home at the end of the party. For food we put on a hog roast and asked everyone to bring side dishes or puddings and we did some soft drinks, Pimm's and beers and asked folk to bring a bottle.

Later on when people had had a drink we also had egg and spoon and sack races both for the kids and grown Ups.

We all really enjoyed ourselves it was about the same scale as our wedding but no pressure and a lot of fun.

Nice cake Victor you can get special 'wonky' cake tins in Lakeland. I've not used them myself but other Lakeland bakeware I have is foolproof and indestructible.

Some of the things I have found have been amazing but far too tricky for me or £££'s so I have tried to pin the things I think I could possibly attempt albeit in a simplier cheaper form in some cases.

I think to be helpful we probably need some more information Victor ...
how many people are we talking about for the party? is it at your house or a venue?
Is it family, friends, kids, grown Ups?
Day time or night time?
Blow the budget or cheap and cheerful?

We can then suggest how much faff you can do with cup cakes! block of fondant icing for hats btw

It will just be a few adults and about 5/6 children probably. Nothing massive as they will still be having their normal birthday parties on their actual birthdays.

I was thinking of doing one every year in the summer though - something to look forward to. So I don't mind putting effort into decorations as I could put them up and bring them out the next year.

Does that sound daft?

I don't want to spend a fortune, its just for a bit of fun. Cheap, cheerful and homemade.

I have never really made anything other than the basic cakes so could use this as a chance to teach myself if that's possible.

Forgot to say, I did mine on the (very) cheap, and the kids loved it :) Collected mismatched crockery from charity shops etc.

We always had unbirthdays as children- we both had birthdays very close to christmas, so our parents always gave us a present when it was 6 months on from our actual birthday (as 50 weeks is an awful long time to wait for another present!)

We also had a birthday tea, though this was just our family, with nice biscuits, cake, sometimes fizzy drinks etc.
