Baptism celebration

What do most people do after baptisms? I can't decide whether to have a 'tea party' at home or pay for Sunday lunch for everyone or perhaps hire a function room and put on a buffet?

Any suggestions? What type of baptism/Christening celebrations have you attended and enjoyed? What did you organise for your DC baptisms?

Depends a lot on how many you are inviting.
With dc1 - it was back to ours for a buffet.
dc2 - we used a local community hall that they didn't charge me for as I'd done a lot of volunteering there in the past - paid someone to do the buffet
dc3 we used the rooms at the Church - a friend did the buffet for us

I've never been to a Sunday lunch for a Christening, but I don't see why not. Mostly though, depends on numbers - when you are sitting at a table for a formal meal, it's more difficult to mingle and socialise. Christenings often have other small children there, and a formal meal doesn't usually go well with babies and toddlers being made to sit still for a couple of hours.

We had a buffet lunch in a local hotel as we couldn't fit 100 guests at home!

That's a very good point about children at a sit down meal. In fact we went for a Christmas meal with the children and I now recall commenting about it brings little stressful for me with 3 DC.

Im now thinking of maybe a hot buffet at a local pub or restaurant followed by drinks and home for people that want to hang around?

Buffet at the pub over the road from the church for us, we bought the food and put enough behind the bar to buy the first round, after that guests bought their own drinks. It was great.

We all went back to my parents house for a BBQ, about 50 of us I think. I was going to hire a hall but actually it was less stressful having it at my parents house. We had a bouncy castle as well to keep the kids amused
