Holding community event in park - how best to serve hot tea and coffee?

Hi, we're a voluntary org which is going to hold an Easter event - egg hunt and games - in a local park. There's no electricity supply to the park, or water for that matter. We want to be able to serve tea and coffee at 50p a cup; what's the best kind of equipment for the purpose? We have access to storage so could look into buying secondhand kit. Any advice gratefully received!

Those big flasks with a pump action top?

How many are you expecting? You could do it with water carriers, rhino buckets for slops, and either gas stoves and kettles, or a small generator to power the urn.

Yes actually camping gas stoves is what we use at our event - I forgot!

I'd start by finding out who on your committee is either seriously into camping or knows someone who is. Boiling up kettles will make about six mugs at a time, are you likely to get 'rushes' for drinks or do you think it'll be a steady flow? And of course the weather will make a difference, which is not predictable until the day.

A charity do out in the middle of nowhere last autumn managed to get a local supermarket on board, who did the tea and coffee bit. One of the few good things I've ever seen Tesco do.

Is there a Starbucks anywhere near? I help run a voluntary group and for our fundraiser last year the local Starbuck donated huge insulated flasks of coffee (really, really big).

Even if you can't get coffee out of them it might be worth asking about the flasks. Costa wouldn't give us anything at all but definitely try Starbucks if you can.

I like the campers idea! Though I suspect our lot are more urban city folk. The event is only on for 2 hours in the afternoon so I think it would be best not to have to boil anew. Good idea re Starbuck's. There's one less than a mile away, so that's definitely worth a shot; would be perfect if that worked out.

Contact your local scout group and see if they will come along with all their cookers for a generous donation.

yy about Scouts, our local lot rely heavily on sending out their bbq and tea brigade to other people's 'do's' as a fundraiser. They did our school fete last year for their costs and 50/50 after that.
