Didn't notice we'd gotten to the end of the thread!

They sound very cool. For that price elsewhere I could put names on with funky 3D paint, and spend my nonexistent time making bags instead. I don't know what it is about a pottery party which makes me think 'tie dye' but it's clearly a very strong association - I am now thinking tie dye bags, FGS. Hmm

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 20:36

50p in the shop.

stealthsquiggle · 05/05/2013 20:36

No idea where the 'elsewhere' came from in previous post Confused

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 20:38

Actually have a look on the shop cos some of the painting tools might be good for use at the actual party most things are literally pence.

stealthsquiggle · 05/05/2013 20:38

Well if they still have them next time you go, I would be very grateful for 24 of them - but don't make a special trip, as it's about as far from urgent as it could possibly be.

stealthsquiggle · 05/05/2013 20:48

Potter will bring loads of tools (he does big community workshops and the like), but I was thinking of getting something like this to put one on each invitation.

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 20:50

Oooh yes! I'll have a jaunt out and let you know.

Blooming typical. As soon as I decide that I am not doing science party this year, I find the perfect fabric

Blatherskite · 05/05/2013 21:16

Blathers does have Rapidough. She jumped through bloody hoops getting it fer her Come Dine With Me night and then we never played it!!

It is a fun game though.

For the Princess party bag sweeties, I'd do those candy necklaces and bracelets. They'd fir the theme nicely.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 05/05/2013 21:36

Candy necklaces is a good call. I was going to suggest bead threading to make necklaces, but you already have tiara making planned and they probably won't have the attention span for two craft activities.

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 22:02

Bookmarking that fabric for when i do a science party. And i will do it. My friend the microbiologist (the one i accidentally flirted with) i'd get him to help. Im gonna try and push the pizza party this year i think. Maybe i should get the green aprons myself for that!

Except i think that dd would love love love a disco. Maybe dh would let me combine the two kids birthdays mert in the middle and do a big disco at xmas just this once.

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 22:03

In fact stealth you said science party was next year so get the fabric noooowwww! Never too early on this thread remember.

soundstrue · 06/05/2013 07:01

Great idea about the sweet bracelet s and necklaces. I'm hoping the weather will be nice, a big ask in Scotland, and we can have a treasure hunt in the garden. I could put wands, gold coins and sweet bracelets in their and it could all go in party bag. Bought some tissue paper to make pom poms. She has two brothers so trying to make it very girly for her. Thanks for all your great ideas.

stealthsquiggle · 06/05/2013 08:41

DW - that fabric is available from a few US based places much cheaper, do I think will hold out on the basis that either DH or I will probably go to the US sometime in the next 17 months.

Re Rapiddough - I think if I need games at all, then I need them for the bit after we have scrubbed most of the clay off them - the potter is more than capable of keeping them occupied for the clay - covered part of the proceedings.

stealthsquiggle · 06/05/2013 08:42

so, not do Hmm

Tinkerisdead · 06/05/2013 09:42

Humph. Use playdoh. Im sulking now, that was a good pottery themed game!

stealthsquiggle · 06/05/2013 10:03

Sad don't sulk, DW - it was a great idea.

All the "pottery parties" on pinterest are actually painting parties, not making ones so I can't just copy them

jetstar · 08/05/2013 22:46

Hi, I have been lurking on these threads on and off for a while - love, love, love party planning (less so the actual event Hmm)
Blathers can I ask you about your number 1 shaped cake on your profile? DD2 is 1 next week and I am hiring a tin. Apologies if this has been covered before...

Is it all hundreds and thousands on the top?
Is it 2 cakes sandwiched together (I prefer my cakes with buttercream in the middle!) or is it one cake sliced in half? Or just one thick cake?

I'm trying to get better at cake making as I have seen so many fantastic cakes at parties and I want to get in on the act!!
For DD1 at the end of the summer I'd love to do a Tinkerbell cake for her 4th Birthday... may be a little over ambitious with my skills Wink I'm thinking I may have to do a fairy themed party too (more of this later probably Grin)

Blatherskite · 09/05/2013 09:45

Hi jetstar I don't think anyone has asked about the number 1 before. I'll try to make sense but DD has an ear infection and I haven't slept for a full night in a week now so I may end up confusing myself

As far as I remember (DS is now 6!) it was 2 plain sponge cakes, sandwiched with jam and buttercream. I didn't have a shaped tin when I made that so it was made from a square cake that I cut in half and re-arranged - cut down the middle and arranged in one long rectangle then slices taken off one end to make the foot of the 1 and the little flick at the top. A shaped tin would have been much easier. Once I'd got the shape, I covered the whole thing in buttercream. I ended up making another one for a friend's little girl and made the buttercream pink which looked lovely too. I think I did the hundreds and thousands before I piped the white edges as it gave a cleaner finish when I'd done as there weren't loads of sprinkles in the white.

I hope that makes sense.

DoctorsWife is your girl for Disney Princess/Fairy parties. I'm sure we could help you with an easy-ish Tinkerbell cake

My sil did a tinkerbell cake once that i thought was easy but effective. She did the barbie ball gown cake like these

But she bought a plastic tinkerbell, plunged her body into the basin mould cake and made the skirt out of leaves. She just used a leaf cutter/plunger and stuck them all over in laters. Its an easy cake to make but easier if your just layering leaves like roof tiles. Then she used edible glitter over the top. It looked good!

Tinkerisdead · 09/05/2013 09:53

like this, this is nicer than sil version

Tinkerisdead · 09/05/2013 09:54

And do give us the go ahead to plan a fairy party pleaaaseeee

Blatherskite · 09/05/2013 09:59

It's my birthday soon. Despite spending weeks planning stuff for the kids, I have yet to organise so much as a night down the pub for me!
