Didn't notice we'd gotten to the end of the thread!

Could you combine your bone hunt and build a dinosaur with one of these?

If you get those shallow trofast type trays and bury them in sand, team has to excavate and build the dinosaur.

Films hmmm the onvious one is jurassic park? My little dd is heavily into dino dan and she did manage a little bit of jurassic park when on tv but shes only 4. I cant think of others my minds blank. Party bag cookie is good, you can get those dinos in jelly egg things that might be quite good too. Stealtg has some older kids to i'll wait to see if she's done dinos.

Tinkerisdead · 01/05/2013 22:00

Sorry you asked about time. At 9yrs maybe a later party feels more treat like than a lunchtime type toddler bash?

Tinkerisdead · 01/05/2013 22:04

dino jelly egg

hatching egg

Tinkerisdead · 01/05/2013 22:08

Films: ice age dawn of the dinosaurs
Disney film: Dinosaur (not too babyish)
Land before time (lovely but possibly too young?)
Jurassic park - scary?:

TapselteerieO · 01/05/2013 22:13

Ds would absolutely love to do the dinosaur dig idea - but I wonder if their is anything less messy than sand - I know the volunteers at the theatre might have kittens if we do anything messy!

I like the wooden kits. I one on a website v cheap - here would be better to have two different kits probably?

TapselteerieO · 01/05/2013 22:14

Sorry about typo's there not their.

TapselteerieO · 01/05/2013 22:18

Ice age one sounds good, might have to get that anyway - anything comedy will be loved by ds and it doesn't have to be a dinosaur film if there is one out recently that might appeal to people that aren't so dinosaur obsessed.

Tinkerisdead · 01/05/2013 22:30

Hmmm less messy...oats are messy but easily hoovered up compared to sand. I'd say set them in jelly but it'll bugger up the wooden bits.
I think if he likes dinosaurs def give him a dino film! Ice age is a good all rounder. (Do you get subjected to DinoDan?)

stealthsquiggle · 01/05/2013 22:36

The Croods is presumably too recent?

You could bury dino bones in loads of polystyrene packing thingys - might make some mess, but a lot more easily cleared up than sand.

stealthsquiggle · 01/05/2013 22:55

We skipped the whole knowing-every-single-dinosaur-by-name phase in favour of dragons. Lots of dragons.

Thinking of which, how about how to Train your Dragon?

Or The Water Horse. He's a dinosaur, sort of, and my DC (10 & 6) both love the film (as do I).

TapselteerieO · 01/05/2013 23:06

He loves how to train your dragon - but they almost know it off by heart, because we have the audiobook too. We have the Waterhorse, it is good.

stealthsquiggle · 02/05/2013 11:10

What are the rules on the film? Do you have to pay performing rights royalties for showing it in the cinema?

TapselteerieO · 02/05/2013 19:59

We don't have to pay anything except hire of the venue - private function, no paid entrance - so it is the same as inviting them all to my house to watch it. If we charged entry then it would be different.

stealthsquiggle · 03/05/2013 08:51

That makes sense. Are you Amy further forward on film choice and plans for games? Everything I think of seems to involve running around Hmm.

stealthsquiggle · 03/05/2013 08:57

any, not Amy. Strange phone.

TapselteerieO · 03/05/2013 14:11

Need to watch trailers with ds before I decide on a movie - planning to do that today after school - I think he will want the Ice Age one though. I might have to google some more game ideas. I would like to have some team games too depending on how many come....

Have just had a fab idea though - have asked if we can use the panto horse costume at the theatre - might be a novel/surprise version of pin the tail on the donkey!

soundstrue · 05/05/2013 07:33

Hi, I'm planning a princess party for my 5 year old dd. So far have tiara making also have soft felt princess kits for party bags. I think party bags with a few sweets will be fine. Party at my house, it'll be 4 girls from nursery plus 4 female cousins.
Is it OK to ask them to come in princess dresses? Was thinking to ask 16 year old niece to do their nails, my dd loves that but a bit worried if OK for 4/5 year old girls, what do you think?
Thinking about getting cheap red carpet for coming in front door. For games, hunt the slipper? Musical statues & pass the parcel. No ideas about food yet.
I've been lurking on thread for a while so looking forward to your good ideas. Thanks.

stealthsquiggle · 05/05/2013 09:40

Nail varnish - I might be a bit Hmm about it if you hadn't checked with me first, so maybe best to ask parents, and use a water based nail varnish?

Red carpet sounds great, and there are lots of princess/castle decorating ideas around. If it were my princess party, there would be some dragons creeping in Grin. I have crown and princess moulds which I used to make cupcake toppers. I have seen crown shaped biscuit cutters as well - which would also work for sandwiches if you really wanted to go to town. There are also shoe - shaped cutters for glass slipper biscuits.

I am sure there must be a game to be made our of 'The Princess and the Pea'.

stealthsquiggle · 05/05/2013 09:45

Oh - change of direction alert - science party deferred to next year for DD - I have found a lovely potter who is great with DC, who will bring all the kit, including his wheel, and do a pottery party. I am sold. Now I need ideas for invitations, cake, food, possibly a game or two (he will do a 1.5 hour session) and token party bag as their creations will get taken away to be fired and they will get them back 3-4 weeks later.

soundstrue · 05/05/2013 14:40

Thanks. I'll not do nail varnish. Like the biscuit cutter idea, I'll order some. Party not for 4 weeks so plenty of time to get organised. Thinking about ordering some princess wands for party bags although wary because they would have to be cheap ones.

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 15:31

Soundstrue: i'd be annoyed at nail varnish on my dd(4.5yrs) at her rapunzel party i had a friend plait their hair sticking flowers etc in it. That was absolutely loved. So i'd suggest hair dressing over makeup.

Fine to ask them to dress as princesses, if you have any dressing up ones yourself put them out as spares.

Bakerross do crowns to decorate as well as gems etc to stick on. Ive had little wands that were pence still going strong

Maybe print out pictures of all the disney princesses to colour in as a quiet activity. For princess and the pea maybe put some dried peas in sandpit to search for in exchange for a sweet etc?

Stealth when is your party? Our special shop has plain green cotton aprons perfect for pottery for 50p each? Any good to you and i'll race down on tues?

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 15:33

Stealth: for game could you do a version of rapidough(?) where its like pictionary but with dough/clay? I think blathers has it.

stealthsquiggle · 05/05/2013 15:48

DW - party isn't until October. I was thinking of plain canvas aprons and tie-dying them, but 50p each might be too good to resist - I could always put tie-dyed pockets on them instead. I would need 24 to be on the safe side - PM/text me and I can PayPal you the money (or send you a cheque). Thank you Grin.

I must say yes to the Potter and confirm a date before I get even more carried away, though Blush

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 20:32

These are green cotton with three pickets on the front if i recall. Let me see if i can find a pic anywhere, for 50p you could save time and cash on the materials. I'd offer to get them embroidered by mil with names but her new 7k machine well she just cant master it!!

Tinkerisdead · 05/05/2013 20:35

here they are
