30th birthday

I didn't even know this area of mn existed

It's my 30th in May and I've decided I'd like to have a party.

I'm not usually bothered about celebrating my birthday in a big way but for some reason feel I should this time.

I've decided on an awards night theme and have found a venue that has a small stage so am going to have an awards ceremony with silly awards like the person in the last 30 years who has fixed my bike the most or taught me to cook etc sort of as a
way of thanking and including everyone who is important to me.

I really need some ideas to carry on the theme, ideas on everything from decorations to food and music welcome.

how can i make it a memorable night on a very small budget

I have one suggestion for saving money... for the awards, buy cheap toys or whatever from a charity shop and then spray paint them gold.
For decorations I would borrow as much bunting as possible from friends, or makeyour own. Then a load of balloons - you can't go wrong with bunting and balloons!

I wouldn't do the awards thing. I think it's a really bad idea. At best people will think you're really up yourself and at worst, you will unwittingly offend someone by omitting an award for something they thought was important but you don't.

I've tried to do things like that at parties to make people remember it. In reality they just humour you and it's plainly obvious they are just putting up with it for your sake and you end up feeling deflated, wishing you'd never bothered.

I'd do a little speech to say thanks to everyone who has had an impact on your life over the last 30 years and you look forward to spending the next 30 years with them.
