Hello everyone, I need a fabulous Fire Engine birthday cake for my 3yr olds birthday on May 5th - does anyone know of a good cake maker? I'm based in Teddington but will happily travel to collect a really good one.
TIA x

I found this for you: \link{http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/special/cake/cake_fireengine/\fireenginecake}

Would have been happy to do this for you, but am too far away (S Yorks. Have just looked at the link that sunchowder posted, and it is very similar to one I have in one of my books. Doesn't look too difficult - you can use a lot of pre-bought stuff as the decorations. Use paste colouring rather than liquid if you can find it (any cake decorating shop will sell it) as too much liquid colouring turns butter icing sloppy! HTH

oooh, I made the one on sunchowder's link on Sunday and I have to say it's really not that difficult. It even has video instrctions (that I listened to a lot of times!). Definately look for paste colouring as I left it until Easter Sunday to shop so had to use liquid red. Icing wasn't too sloppy but was a pinky red rather than true fire engine red.

My 3 year old ds LOVED it!

yes yes I know one in Putney

really good

CountessDracula · 20/04/2006 18:16

They have a fire engine one if you click on cakes for kids

TBH it looks pretty easy - you can buy cakes in blocks eg madeira cake and sandwich them together then do the icing

That link I gave you - the shop also sells everything you would need to do yourself incl pre made icing if you want.

sunchowder · 20/04/2006 18:21

Wow, those cakes look great CD!

CountessDracula · 20/04/2006 18:22

I would do it for you if I wasn't away on holiday that week.

alison222 · 20/04/2006 18:44

There is a shop in Ealing that hires out various shaped cake tins by the day - don't know if they have a fire engine one. We had a scooby one for my DS's birthday. i think she makes them too.
if you want to know where let me know and i'll look it up and post again.

yes and kooks unlimited in Richmond does too

Hello everyone, I can't thank you enough for all the replies.
sunchowder-thanks so much, I'm going to give it a go! (watch out for smoke signals in Teddington).
countessdracula-love the cakes. i'm going to give both shops a call tomorrow.

Thanks so much you've all just made a little 3yr old very happy! x
