At a party starting at 8.30pm?

This is a party at home, not in a function room or venue.

No, just nibbles maybe.

Greensleeves · 27/11/2012 18:31

No. But I'd be hoping for nibbles and I might bring a cake Smile

Depends...if the invite said "drinks", I'd expect just drinks and some nibbles. If the invite said "party" I'd probably expect something more substantial, but not an actual meal. Are you the hostess or a guest??

nappyaddict · 27/11/2012 18:33

Hostess :)

For a drinks party at that time I would definitely provide:

Cheese & crackers
Crudités & dip
My famous smoked oyster dip
Selection of hot hors d'oeuvres
Crisps / pretzels
Bowls of m&m's

All straight from M&S or Waitrose entertaining for minimum work required Blush

I would put on some nibbles, crisps, nuts, olives etc.
maybe a cheese board and it wouldn't do any harm to get a couple of pizzas and garlic bread in fridge, them depending on how night goes you can cook them or freeze them for later

I'd have my tea, just in case, and then, if there were anything, it would be a bonus Wink

That said, if it were me hosting, it would be nibbles, but I do have some lovely friends who start to feed people about 10.30.... one time it was bacon butties, another a curry, another hot pork sarnies. I have to admit, it always goes down well after you've been standing and chatting and drinking for 2 or 3 hours.... Sorry! not what you wanted to hear I suspect Grin
