Party game ideas for all ages please...

I've done a search and not come up with much.

My lovely friend is hosting a New Years Eve party and wants to start it off with some party games but wants to include children and adults in them- there will be several families and age ranges from 5 to 50 - so nothing too complicated for the youngest and nothing too physical for the oldest!

All ideas will be rewarded with

have you tried activity village? there's a good games section on there - and a party games section with some stuff that I think would fit the bill!

Make a big dice with cardboard, some dressing up clothes, chocolate and a knife and fork.

If someone rolls a 6 then they have to put all the dressing up clothes on and cut a piece of chocolate.

If someone else rolls a 6 then you have to stop and let them get dressed.

Pass the parcel suits all ages.

Balancing spoons on noses.

I was going to suggest pass the parcel, but with forfeits to keep it interesting. You can make them generic, so 'sing a song' could be anything from baa baa black sheep to my way..

Probably not quite pacey enough, but we play trivial pursuits, but with one junior and one normal box. It really evens it out, and gutting for the adults when the children are asked a really easy question and they have to recall who the 15th president of the US was.

Oh also if they can predominantly read then the name game, where everyone has a post-it on their forehead with a famous name on it and has to guess who they are by asking other people but you can only give yes/no answers. Maybe the 5yr old could be teamed up with an adult.

Everyone picks an animal and an action and noise to go with the animal. So a bark while hanging your tongue out like a dog. You then do your animal and then someone else's in the circle, they receive this by doing your animal and then pass it on by someone else's in the circles animal.

We have played it with all ages and we always end up in fits of laughter. If you want people to go out (pause hesitation not remembering the person's animal).

Wink murder generally goes down well as well.

Mummies - teams of three, with two people trying to mummify the third in loo roll. Set a time limit, tidiest mummy wins.

Who Is This? Cut out pictures of the faces of famous people/characters, stick them onto sheets of paper and number them, and people have to list as many as they can identify.

Chubby Bunnies - first player puts a marshmallow in their mouth and says "chubby bunnies". Puts in another marshmallow, says "chubby bunnies" - they carry on inserting marshmallows, one at a time, until they can't enunciate it clearly. Winner is the person who can hold the most marshmallows in their mouth and still say "chubby bunnies" clearly.

Cut up old Christmas cards into 25 pieces, give each person a cut up card in an envelope, they have to do the jigsaw - first to finish wins. You could do jigsaws with more pieces for the grown ups and fewer for the children.

I've used all of these at Christmas parties, and they were all successful, apart from the Xmas card jigsaw one, because I cut up two cards for each person and mixed them up, so they had to sort them out and reassemble them - no-one managed it, and several people threw their jigsaw bits all over the front room!

Oh also there are games where you have to guess the rule - so 'I went to a dessert island and I took ....' the rule is that you can only take something begining with your first name, so Stephen can take a speedboat, sphynx, string, supper etc, but not yacht, pyramid, rope or dinner. Drives people nuts. Sometimes you have to be really blatent about it before people realise.

Another one where you pass some scissors, or could use chopsticks etc, and you pass them either 'crossed' or 'uncrossed', you do a bit of a flourish with your hands etc when you pass them. People try to copy your hands, actions, whether the chopsticks are separate or crossed etc, but all that actually matters is whether the person's LEGS are crossed or not. At first start subtly with ankles crossed or not, you will end up being like Kenny Everett. Best if just you knows the rule to start with.
