Pinatas - yay or nay?

I've been toying with the idea of a pinata for DS's 5th birthday party. My only experience with one is a pull string one at a party that seemed to go quite well.

I was thinking of making my own using a balloon and papier mache and painting it to look like a football (DS wants a sports themed party) and using a (child's, plastic) baseball bat as the whacker stick. Oh, and I'd planned to fill it with sweets and party bag tat and I'll keep a few bits back in case anyone doesn't get their fair share of the loot when it breaks.

Good idea? Or invitation to frustration?

Oh,Here's a Laugh.A few days ago,the So.Americans next door ran up a med.
sized Pinata.They spent a Fortune trying to Fill the durn thing with enough candy for 30 kids.Since 1 person has to stand up High and Operate the thing-
the Father's Ladder Tipped over, and he went down on the concrete drive with
a Howl that could be Heard for 3 Blocks.One Fat guy got struck in the gut by a
short little kid, and a mother got bopped and went Flying onto the Lawn! Altogether an amusing evening for us. Jill.
